Essay, Research Paper: "Why I Don't Smoke"

I do not smoke for many reasons. One is because I am active in my community as a good student, as a community leader, and as a dedicated worker. I have to be a good role model to those in the community and smoking is not one of those aspects to be looked up to. Another reason I do not smoke is because I have been personally affected by the negative impact of smoking. My grandfather died of emphozima when I was very young, this was devastating impact on my life. I also see the straggle that my mom goes there to quit smoking. She regrets ever starting and wishes she could quit.
I will do my best to achieve excellent grades and honors in my classes. I have already enriched my own high school by taking one of the school’s first pre-college courses, Principles of Engineering. After passing the class with an 85% or higher average, I will receive three college credits and high school honor credits. I have also been involved in the schools’ science far, where I received third place on my project on gems and rocks. In addition, I have received a place on the All-American Scholar program because of my dedication and hard work in achieving high grades and have been placed on schools honor roll every year. I have taken four years of both math and design and drawing classes and achieved some of the highest grades in those classes every year. Smoking does not contribute to my success in academics.
In my own community I have helped my town in many ways. When the moving wall came to our town, I helped the local V. F. W. by operating the computer that held all the names on the wall. I also joined an explorer program at my county sheriff office, Putnam County Sheriff Cadets. After I became a cadet I received recognition from the county sheriff, the county District Attorney, and some of the county justices. I am currently the executive lieutenant, or quartermaster, of the program. I am in charge of keeping track of how many hours the other cadets put in the office and of all the dues and money that the program gets. I did all this without smoking and showed the community that teens do not need to smoke to be known (popular).
I have enriched many places as I worked part time for them. I have experience working in various types of positions. I worked at a local gas station, as a gas attendant. I had to work the full service station by myself, many times to closing. I also was employed at the local Burger King. I showed the manager that I was a responsible hard worker and was promoted to the production manager. This required me to be responsible for making sure that the other employees were doing their jobs accurately and efficiently. Now I am employed at the local lumberyard, Dill’s Best. I continue to use the skills I have learned, but I work more hours. AS a dedicated worker I would not have the strength because Smoking would turn my lugs and health it to prunes.
I did all this with out smoking and never wanted to smoke because I planing on living to an ripe old age with out worrying about getting cancer or another health problem. I personally feel that smoking is a dirty and disgusting addiction and has no place in a teen’s life. I have high expectations for myself and smoking would just get in the way of them and my dream.
