What is an element: Simple substances that can not be broken down into simpler substances.
What is an atom: smallest part of an element that can be identified as an element.
How do you right a chemical symbol: If it is one letter capitalize it, if there are two letters capitalize the first letter but not the second.
Malleable- metals that can be hammered into thin sheets like aluminum foil.
Ductile- metals that can be drawn into wire.
Luster- shine

What are the main physical properties of metals and non metals: Metals tend to give up electrons when they bond but Non metals tend to gain or share electrons when they bond.
What are valence electrons: The electrons on the last energy level of an atom, which are used in chemical bonds.
Ion- a non-neutral atom.
Isotopes- Atom of an element with the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons.
What is the mass of protons and neutrons and electrons: Protons & Neutrons = 1 AMU / electrons = 1/1836 AMU
What does the atomic number tell you: Number of Protons in the nucleus of an atom.
What happens to an electron if it looses or gains energy: As it looses energy it will drop to an energy level closer to the nucleus but as it gains energy it will move to an energy level away from the nucleus.
How do you figure out the atomic mass:
Do isotopes have different atomic masses or atomic numbers: atomic mass.
1st energy level holds 2 electrons 2nd holds 8.
Mass number atomic number = number of neutrons
