John Donne wrote the quote No man is an island , to show that no person can go through life without others successfully. This quote can be related to William Shakespeare's tragedy MacBeth. The character MacBeth was loyal to the king and a great worrier until he interacted with the Weird Sisters. They gave him three prophecies that changed his life. He made himself and island , becoming evil and disconnected from everyone.
Macbeth is and island, in his reaction to what the witches tell him. He and Banquo had and unexpected meeting with the Weird Sisters. The first of them saluted Macbeth with the title of Thane of Glamis. The second of them followed that salute by giving him the title of Thane of Cawdor. The third bid him All hail! King that shalt be hereafter (act 1. scene 1)
MacBeth is an island when he keeps the predictions a secret from most. MacBeth only writes to his wife about the Weird Sisters. Doing this he lets the predictions get to his head, leading to the killing of Duncan. MacBeth being determined to put to death both Banquo and his son to make void of the predictions of the Weird Sisters.
MacBeth is determined once more to seek out the Weird Sisters, the island that he is, knowing from them the worst. The witches put together a brew in the cauldron, which MacBeth drank receiving three apparitions. The first arose in the likeness of an armed head, and called MacBeth by name, and bid him beware of the Thane of Fife; which cautioned MacBeth of MacDuff. The second spirit arose the shape arose in the shape of a bloody child, it bid him to have no fear, no man women born could hurt him. The third rose in the form of a child crowned with a tree in his hand; saying he can t be vanquished until the woods of Birnam to Dunsinane Hill should come against him.
MacBeth is an island when he acts upon what the witches tell him. He acts a tyrant and he is alone. With no one left to care or honor him. MacBeth fell for the hollow promises of the witches that had filled him with a false confidence, making MacBeth an evil lonely island.
