In the enchanting story The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkin the main character undergoes a
significant changes. The character goes from a peaceful fun loving hobbit to a brave daring
adventurer who helps kill an evil dragon and steel a great treasure. Finally at the end starts
his adventure home.
It all begins one fine morning when Biblo Baggins got an unexpected knock on his
door. He answered and an old man came in. First the hobbit did not notice who he was.
Finally he remembered it was his old friend Gandolf, the wizard. They began to talk and the
wizard tried to talk the hobbit into taking an adventure. Biblo would not do it. Hobbit's were
calm friendly people who never went on adventures. At last the wizard left but came back
the next day only this time he came with thirteen homeless dwarves. After hours and hours
of talk the hobbit finally agreed to go on the adventure knowing he might not come back
alive. It was a daring dangerous adventure to return Thorin, the dwarve king, to his rightful
kingdom under the mountain and to steel back the dwarves great treasure from the evil
dragon Smaug.
They were on their way the next day - the wizard the dwarves and the hobbit. They
traveled for days. nights were spent at inns for very short periods of time. Until after days of
difficult travel, they reached a point with no more inns just them and the wilderness.
Crawling with goblins, wolves and all kinds of other dangerous enemies whom they would
have to avoid. They have now traveled for weeks and everything was going as planed until
one night when they were camping out in the rain they saw a bright fire in the distance. It
was decided that the hobbit would go and check it out. He went and when he go there he saw
three goblins camping by a fire. Biblo decided not to go back empty handed and tried to pick
pocket the goblins. Unfortunately he was captured. The others began to get worried and
decided to go after him. Not knowing what they were getting into, they also got captured by
the goblins. Every one but the wizard was captured he waited a while and then when the
moment was right he destroyed the goblins.
A little while later after the dwarves and the hobbit were freed, they found the
goblins cave. They went in. What they found was great and a very important asset to their
journey to the mountain. What they found were two swords the orcist (goblin cleaver) and
glamdring (foe hammer) which goblins truly hated. It was used to kill many goblins in its
time.
They went on with their journey and finally after several months of travel reached the
mountains. On this particular night that they reached the mountains there was a great
storm with fast howling winds, rain, hail and giants who lived in the mountains were
throwing boulders around. The exhausted travelers sought a place to take shelter for the
night for they were exhausted and without food. After a short while they found a cave the
wizard explored it decided it was safe and let the dwarves and the hobbit in. Unfortunately
for them the wizard did not look good enough.
As soon as everyone got settled in and fell asleep the hobbit began to have a
nightmare. He dreamt that goblins came from a secret hole in the cave and took himself and
the dwarves. He was not dreaming it did happen. Fortunately for them the wizard escaped,
when finally the goblins had brought the hobbit and the dwarves to the great goblin the
wizard appeared and in a flash killed the great goblin and helped the prisoners escape.
Unfortunately for the hobbit he had been knocked unconscious in all the commotion.
Though the goblins did not find him, because he was laying in the dark he was still lost in
the goblins cave, when he woke. He could not go into the light were he could be seen so he
kept going into the dark. It kept getting darker and darker until not seeing were he was
going he fell and stumbled upon a round metallic object. He put it in his pocket and kept
going into the dark until suddenly he fell waste deep into a little lake of water. Once his eyes
adjusted, he saw a scares creature which was in a boat paddling towards him. The hobbit
began to speak to the creature. It called itself precious. It was crazy. It always talked to
itself. Finally worst came to worst and the creature began to talk to the hobbit. It told him if
he would get his riddle wrong, he would eat the hobbit and if the creature got the hobbits
riddle wrong he would show him the way out.
First the creature went and the hobbit got it right. the n the hobbit went and the
creature got it right they went on like this for a long time. Then finally the hobbit was out of
riddles and just blurted out what is in my pocket. The creature was stunned. He guessed and
guessed but could not get it right. To the hobbits luck he had overheard the creature talking
about a ring of power and he could not find it. Then suddenly the creature came to his
senses and said what's in your pocket and kept repeating it over and over again knowing
that the hobbit had the ring. In the mean time the hobbit preparing for the worst. he
reached in his pocket and put the ring on. At first he did not know what it did, but, when
the creature began to look for the hobbit, he knew it made him invisible. The creature
thinking the hobbit head found the exit, he began to run to the exit. The hobbit ran after
him and found his way out. Finding his companions on the other side sleeping.
The next morning they he was with them and had a thousand questions to ask about
where he was and what had happened. He told them everything except he did mention the
ring. Then after a short meal they were on their way once more.
Finally after months of dangerous travel they had reached the mountain. now it was
the hobbits job to go into the dragons lair and steal back the dwarves great treasure. He
went, but before he did, he told his companions about the ring. The wizard did not look
happy. He told the hobbit to use it in the dragons lair. He did, he was in the lair and
suddenly the dragon woke and sensed he was there and asked who was in his lair. The
hobbit stupidly answered just a friendly hobbit. It was ok because the dragon could not see
him. He kept on aggravating the dragon until finally he went and in his rage attacked the
little village by the river near the mountain.
fortunately the hobbit had noticed a soft part on the dragon's breast which was not
covered by thick scaly armor. He quickly told the wizard and the wizard sent a messenger
to the villages greatest bowman. He had received the message and was prepared for the
dragons attack. And, as soon as the dragon made his move, the magnificent bowman had
shot an arrow through the evil dragons breast. That was the end of the evil dragon smoug.
In doing this the dwarve Thorin could return to the mountain as he did for it was rid
of the evil dragon. The treasure and the throne of king under the mountain was know in the
hands of its rightful owner all thanks to the brave daring hobbit Biblo Bagins.
Now one can see from the story I've told the hobbit changed a story so old. He
became brave and bold through bad times and good and as the story went on and his
courage grew bolder the good hobbit got smarter and older. And at the end starts his
adventure home back to hobbit land.
