When I first thought of Frankenstein, the image of a large green monster similar to what is seen on television shows (i.e.: The Monsters) immediately came to mind. I pictured him as disproportioned and evil, attacking anything he sees. I thought of him to have superhuman strength, enough to subdue any mortal being under his command. Concerning the story of Frankenstein, I was under the impression that the novel would be mainly about the destruction Frankenstein causes to everything in his way. I believed that the gist of the novel would focus on a very basic and non-detailed plot, one consisting of simply a scary story of a horrible monster and his wrath. After reading the noel however, I had a very different view on the situation. Frankenstein wasn t even the monster! Instead Frankenstein was the doctor who brought the creature to life. Although a lot of my preconceived notions of Frankenstein s wrath were true, overall the novel focused on the theme (one theme at least) of alienation. The monster Frankenstein created, despite what I had previously thought, might have actually been raised as a civilized and normal human being if his creator had not abandoned him. At the end of the novel, I was questioning myself as to who was really the monster in the novel Victor Frankenstein, or the being he had created?
