Jane Eyre
After reading the novel Jane Eyre, I found that a lot of things that happened to her would have been different if she had been attractive. Obviously her treatment by Mrs. Reed and company would have been improved. She would have been considered delicate, and people would not have abused her. But this example is extremely obvious, and you must look more in depth to find things that are more insightful.

In fact, Mrs. Reed may have liked Jane enough to have given her that letter from John Eyre. Had Jane gone to live with her uncle, her life would have been at a much higher level. Her friends would have been of a higher class, which may have aided Jane in finding a better life. It also would have given her a more positive feeling of life.

Mrs. Reed may have ended up having some respect for Jane and sent her to a better school than Lowood was. If this happened, Jane would become more successful than a governess. She may have become a teacher, or something else to that effect. She would be more respected in society and have money, which may get her a good-looking husband that is her age.

If she been gorgeous, instead of plain and bland looking, she would not have been influenced by Helen Burns. This would have occurred because she would have had more friends , which would prevent her from meeting Helen. This would have deterred her from learning that there is more to life than fairy tales and princesses and she wouldn=t take life as seriously. As you can see, looks can affect you very much socially.
Another situation in the book that would have been changed dramatically is when Jane and Mr. Rochester met. Jane may still have helped him after he fell off his horse, but Mr. Rochester=s view of her could have been thwarted because of Jane=s good looks. This would have terminated their talk of Mr Rochester=s looks back at the hall, since again, he would feel inferior. Jane would not feel as relaxed with Mr. Rochester and they may never have realized that their personalities were made for each other.

Had Jane and Mr. Rochester not gotten to know each other, both would have gone their separate ways. Jane may have advertised for another job or she may have stayed while Mr. Rochester went back to England and lived there most of the year. Had this have happened, the whole book may have had a completely different mood and setting, and the plot would have been altered quite spectacularly.

If Jane left Thornfield Hall, Mr. Rochester may have ended up marrying Blanche, and Jane may have ended up marrying Saint John. The main reason Jane did not marry Sinjin in the first place was because she still felt for Mr. Rochester, but that feeling clearly would not have been there if she did not know Mr. Rochester. Jane would have ended up going to India with Sinjin and would have lived a very different lifestyle than she did, or wanted to, for that matter.

These are all different scenarios that would have changed one certain aspect in Jane=s life: her attitude. It obviously would have been a lot more positive. And had it been more positive, she would be more accepted in society. People would be more inclined to like her, not because of her good looks, but because of her friendly personality. Everything seems to be a domino effect, and if one thing is changed it effects everything surprisingly. In fact, had Jane Eyre been drop dead gorgeous, the name of the book would have changed to a more mysterious and obscure name.
