Summer of the Monkeys
By:Wilson Rawls
The book Summer of the Monkeys is about a family of four that had just moved to the Ozark Mountains, smack dab in the middle of the Cherokee Nation. The ladt thing a fourteen year old boy expects to find along an old Ozark river bottom is a tree full of monkeys. Jay Berry Lee's grandpa had an explanation of course, as he did for most things. The monkeys had escaped from a travling circus, and there was a handsome reward in store for anyone who could catch them. Grandpa said there wasnt any animal that couldnt be cought somehow, and Jay Berry started out beliving him. By the end of the book Jay Berry Lee had learned a lot more than he ever bargained for. He also learned about faith, and how wishes caome true, and knowing what it is you really want. He even learned a little about growing up.
The Major Characters in Summer of the Monkeys is Jay Berry Lee his grandpa and his little sister Dasiy. They all play a big role in this book.
The Protagongist in my book is Jay Berry Lee and the Antagonist are all those mokeys that Jay Berry is trying to get.
The Theme in Summer of the Monkeys is how to do something that is hard to do. How to give up something you really want to help someone out in the long run.Its hard to do the right thing sometimes.
The Setting of the story is in the Ozark mountains smack dab in the middle of the Cherokee Nation.
The Climax of this book is when Jay Berry Lee had to choose weather or not to pay for his sister's leg to be fixed. That is not easy to do when your a 14 year old boy when you want a pony and a .22.
The main Conflict in this story is when Jay Berry Lee's mom didnt want him to get hurt trying to get these Monkeys. She wanted him to forget about then but when a boys mind is set you cant change it.
I think every kid should read this book because i think it helped me realize how good i have things. I try to relate my life to this book but they have it so hard i just couldnt do it. I think this is one of the best books i have read. i like the plot and everything that goes on in the book Summer of the Monkeys.
