In the opening of this story, you can tell that the character of Montressor is seeking revenge against a man he considered to be his friend. Montressor describes how he has "suffered a thousand injuries" by his friend Fortunato. By injuries, i believe he meant verbally and not physically. And after suffering insult after insult he feels that he can no longer take any more. AS you can tell by the first sentence, "The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge"
In my estimation, this is a man who is very meticulous and also very patient, as he details how he plans to get hias revenge. You can tell that Fortunato was a good friend to MOntressor as he knows what he needs to do to entice his friend to his home. Ahe thinks out his plan, he knows that Fortunato is a wine connoisseur. He also knows that fortunato a bottle of fine wine by the name Amontillado. As to being patient he waits for the carnival season when he knows everyone will be out. Then one evening Montressor goes out to the carnival and meest up with Fortunato whao has had to much to drink.Montressor tries to lure Fortunato Home.
In this story Fortunato has basically know idea what is going on. Henever suspects that a man he calls friend would turn and try killing him.
