The 1955 movie based on The Diary of a Young Girl, written by Anne Frank, is a more inside look on how it was like to go into hiding, during the evil reign of Adolf Hitler. Schindler s List, a Steven Spielberg movie based on Thomas Keneally s book and Jew s interviews of that era, is about the holocaust and a group of Jew s working in a factory under Oskar Schindler.
The Diary of Anne Frank, shows you the inside of the house, the fear that waits, as the nazi soldiers march by on the streets below. Each time you hear the click-clack of boots, the secret annex would fall into complete silence. In the night bomb blasts and sirens, even burglar scares. Throughout this movie Hitler was portrayed over the small box radio. In the movie, it showed a clear picture of the daily life experienced by Jews in that time. The hiding place or secret annex the Frank family lived in was behind a trick door doubling as a bookshelf, from the outside. Downstairs from the bookshelf was a business; on the backside of the bookshelf was the home for Mr. And Mrs. Van Daan, Peter and Mouschi (Peter s cat), Otto, Edith, Margot, and Anne Frank, and later Mr. Dussell.
Schindler s List shows the struggle of many Jews, that were working for Oskar Schindler during the holocaust. The movie portrays a very clear image of what the Jews went through. The train rides to concentration camps, deaths, and overall the hurt of the situation. The pain and crushed lives is evident as you see the famished looking individuals in the movie. Schindler risked his life and used his money to save over 1,000 Jews from certain deaths in concentration camps. Schindler employed Jews at his factory to manufacture goods for the German army. This was a way to ensure them of life. Through this movie Hitler s inhumane acts can be seen and shunned. Schindler s List shows us graphic images of the nightmares the Jewish race went through, you could almost smell the stench of thousands killed, the hunger of malnourished bodies, and the fear of what could happen next.
Both movies are equally good, but show two different styles of life the Jew s had to live. One much more secluded than the other, but both horrible. To get a better picture of the history, I advise each and everyone to watch both movies. This way you can see how it was for this group of Jews compared to another group. One thing in common is all were in hope of a better life and all had to go though much strife.
