France and It's Population
Three fourths of Frances population of 58,300,000 people is urban. There are
105 people per square kilometer. This census was taken in 1996. A little more than
85% of the French population is white and native born.
France has a lot of high speed trains. They even have the fastest train in the
world. It is called the TGV. Most of the population in France uses trains. They
have the most passengers each year and second most amount of freight tons on there
trains for Europe, both excluding the CIS. The French also hold the speed record
for train speed. One of their trains went 505 KH. France has only 904 planes and
helicopters flying under its flag and has 55.1 million people use them each year.
There are 22 political divisions and is subdivided into 96 departments. The
capital city is Paris which has a population of 1,188,918. This census was taken
back in 1982.
Most French are Roman Catholic. In fact 75% of Fances's people are. Some of
the other major religions are: Islam, Judaism, and Protestant.
The official language of France is French but a lot of people also speak Breoton
in Brittiany and Basque and Catalan are spoken in the Pyrenee's Mountains.
Provincical is spoken in Province. Flemish is spoken is Florence and German is
spoken in Alsace.
In 1959 they extended compulsory school to go to the age of 16. In the 1980's a
big boom of universities came, instead of 23 they had 70. The country is divided
into 27 educational districts for administration purposes. In the 80's they had some
47,000 schools that had about 4.1 million students going to them. They also have
11,200 secondary schools that had about 5.4 million students going to them. About
1.2 million students were going to universities and colleges in the 1980's.
France has produced many world class painters like Leonardo Da Vinnci who
painted the Mona Lisa and invented many things like tanks. He rarely ever got
finished with his work though. They have found 12 of his paintings but only 2 of
them are finished. He also drew many sketches. If he would have kept up with his
work and not tried something new so fast, we probably would have flown before the
Right brothers were even born.

operated by the French government. More than 33.3 million phones are in use and
radio and television are run by independent companies. France has 22 million
televisions and 49 million radios. France had circulation of 112 daily newspapers in
the late 80's with about 9.4 million subscribers. The biggest newspaper is called
Paris Match and it has 690 million subscribers.
