King Cheng became Ch in Shih Huang Ti and was the first emperor. China at this time was hard to manage. Since there were many different old kingdoms, each had it s own system of weights, measures, money, and writing. Shih Huang Ti decided to make these systems of weights, measures, money, and writing the same for everywhere in China. He not only did this, but he even made every one wear the same color, which was black. Although that problem was solved, there was another problem Shih Huang Ti had to deal with in China. Barbarians from the north were invading China. A man came to Shih Huang Ti and said that the barbarians were destroying many villages in Wei. The man alone had escaped. Shih Huang Ti got very angry with this. The people of China warned Shih Huang Ti that these people from the north were cruel, tricky, and strong and they did not know how they were going to protect themselves against these cruel people.
We will protect ourselves with a wall! roared Shih Huang Ti.
The royal advisors had no idea what wall they could use.
I will fix the old walls and connect them together, Shih Huang Ti said, We will call it the Great Wall!
Shih Huang Ti grabbed anyone the emperor did not like and forced the musicians, teachers, writers, and artists to join the army of workers. The army of workers worked on the Great Wall for a very long time and finally it was done. Shih Huang Ti had finished the Great Wall!
In conclusion, the Great Wall kept out the invaders from the north for about 1000 years! From that time on, invaders from the north did not bother the people of China all because of the Great Wall. In China today, still standing is the Great Wall done thousands of years ago.
