The Quiet Revolution was a time in Canada's history which dealt with rapid changes toward Quebec, and Quebec's economy. Many people get confused and think the Quiet Revolution was a separatist movement but that is just one of the things that happened to get cramped in this " Impatient Era." The main idea of the Quiet Revolution and what I will be writing about is the changes, and events that happened during this time period. I will take the role of Jean Lesage and go for the Quiet Revolution.
The Liberal's rode to power in the 1960's on the motto " It's time for change."
I myself as Jean Lesage leader of the Liberal Party strongly regard that we should decrease the role of Roman Catholic churches in social and cultural affairs. This is the beginning of a new era. Me and my followers are going to grow Quebec, and French- Canadians into a large power. I believe that we should encourage French speaking people in business to take control of the provinces economy. Today at this public conference I will be talking about some of the changes for it is only right that I help you, as you helped me get elected into power.
I believe in my heart that Quebec can a be nation of true power. This is going to be an era of change that no one will forget, for we are " Masters of our own house. " I want Quebec to be recognized as a French speaking province, therefore I am going to set goals to force Quebec immigrants to learn French as a second language. We are going to pass laws which will make the French language noticed. French will now have to be compulsory in the business world, and Public signs and so on will have to be in French as well. I hunger for these laws because I feel that french has been undermined by the English so much, for so long. That is why I want change, it will better our country, and better the French community. These laws I am creating will make French-Canadians feel at home. After all French-Canadians shouldn't be unwelcome in their own homes, should they?
The second of many changes I plan on enforcing for French-Canadians deals with Quebec's economy. I want Quebec to have some sort of economic power in Canada, and the World. I am going to ensure jobs, which will give more French-Canadians, power. I guarantee better jobs for French- Canadians, I will give some of the more higher Class jobs to the French-Canadians, because Anglophones, though a minority in Quebec, have been running the show. Quebec economically will be diverse. I will try my best into making Quebec large economically. Our Education will be enhanced a great deal, because schools will no longer be run by churches, there will be a new department of education, which will lead to a brighter future for French-Speaking people in the future. I know some people oppose, but I agree with the saying, " Elections are not won with prayers ! "( Thompson p.20) With our education field diversified, we will be able to change from farmers of agriculture to workers of the Industry!
My final struggle for you my French-Canadians is to let you have more political power. My main goal for you is to curb the Federal Government, and make the Quebec Government deal primarily with French-Canadians. I believe that this will organize our government, and it will let French- Canadians deal with problems hand to hand with the new Quebec government. If this were to be achieved I think Canadians, English, French a like could finally reach there goal of a true bilingual country. This would ease the tension and history between us, and their would be no more disputes over power between the cultures.
In the end Quebec, " it is time for some change! " I intend to boost our culture in Quebec and Canada. Quebec will no longer be run by churches, we will blossom as a new nation, this will be a new era in Quebec's history. We will change Quebec, and remember people of the province, we are Maitre Chez Nous! ( Masters of our own house! )( Text book P.45 not in Bibliography)
