The Simple Facts About Global Warming
It's a cool place and they say it gets colder. You re bundled up now but wait 'til you get older. But the meteor men beg to differ Judging by the hole in the satellite picture. The ice we skate is getting pretty thin. The waters getting warm so you might as well swim my worlds on fire how about yours that is the way I like it and I never get bored. Hey now you're an All Star get your game on, go play. In the song All-Star by Smash mouth we see that Global warming is a problem even rock stars have to acknowledge. Because our group is only made up of three people my job today is to present to you the facts about Global Warming. I am not up here to persuade or take sides I m just stating the facts.
First I would like to clarify to you exactly what Global Warming is. According to The Environment Site a copyright of GreenChoices.com, INC. Global Warming refers to an expected rise in global average temperature due to the continued emission of greenhouse gases produced by industry and agriculture which trap heat in the atmosphere. For example, Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere act like the glass in the greenhouse: they are transparent to sunlight, which warms the Earth, but they prevent some heat from escaping into space, keeping Earth warmer than it otherwise would be. A majority of this greenhouse effect is natural, maintaining Earth's average temperature at about 60|F (15|C) (Environment Site).
Scientists believe that the amount of greenhouse gases had not changed much in several thousand years. But since the Industrial Revolution, they have increased. Burning coal, oil and gas increases carbon dioxide; motor vehicles also contribute extra ozone; methane comes from rice paddies and cow pastures. According to explorezone.com. The rest of the information I found on this page basically says that though the temperature of the Earth is rising it is rising very slowly. Also that there hasn t been enough time or history of data kept about the Earth s temperature long enough to really say that this rising degrees isn t a natural event. There is not enough substantial proof to say whether or not Global Warming is real, but then there isn t anything that says it s not.
Recently this debate has taken a new twist however, there are some scientists that are sticking to there guns and saying that the Earth is heating up and the glaciers are still going to melt, however in a brief article by Patrick Michaels called Computer Models for Weather Forecasting Are Ridden With Errors; No Evidence for Global Warming. Over the course of the last two decades, that they are making a disastrous error, and it has taken forever for forecasters to acknowledge it. Each and every computer model predicts that the entire troposphere, or roughly the bottom 40,000 feet of the atmosphere, should be warming rapidly. Most models even predict that much of the warming accelerates with height. But, for more than 20 years now we have two independent measures of temperature -- satellites and weather balloons -- that show no net warming at all from 5,000 feet skyward. So it seems that there is a small glitch that would make having proof of such events hard to find.
Global Warming is something that if true could change the way of life as we know it. The important thing to remember is to take care of the planet. Through recycling and conservation we can destroy some of the problems that we cause to the Earth, and make life better not only for us but also for everything around us.
