There is some good soil there and it can all be used for farming if the land is irrigated enough. There are a few extended areas of dunes only and not too much desert there. We are talking about North Africa and Southwest Asia. The Dead Sea is 9 times saltier than the ocean.

The deserts there average 10 inches a year, and sometimes less. There are desert climates there as well. Oases are also an important part of the desert. An oasis is a pace in the desert that holds water.

Many farmers there grow cereals to live off of and sell in the market. Cereals are grains such as barley, oats, or wheat that are used to make food. The Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea are major factors of precipitation there.

In the steppe climate, there is pastorilism. That is the raising and grazing of livestock. Most of them are sheep, goats, and camels. There is also a lot of natural vegetation there.
