Euthanasia
It is called the mercy killing prescription and it is called that for a reason. They are pills that you take when you are going to die soon and you do not want to go through the pain any more. It has only been legalized in one state (Oregon), but in that state it has worked great for those people who have been suffering and could not bare the pain anymore. I think that every person should have the choice whether to live or to die, that is your right as a human being. Why should a doctor decide your fate when it is your body and your choice whether if you want to end it or not. It is your choice to end your life when you want too, it is safe to use because there are a lot of guide lines that you have to follow to get the pills and there is already one state that has already legalized it and it will not be long until all of the other states legalize it.
Imagine living your whole life the way you want to live it, then you get cancer and you have to go through Kimo therapy and all sorts of difficult procedures. It just happens that this kind of cancer cannot be cured, to top it off the doctor tells you you have about 7 months to live. Those next months are also supposed to be really painful and you decide that you do not want to go through all of that pain and suffering. You talk to your doctor and he says that it is not possible for him to end your misery and none of your friends or your family members are not willing to do it. There is only one choice left and that is suicide but how are you going to do it, hang your self, rat poison, jumping off a cliff. A lot of these kinds of suicides can be painful and could take time. If you were able to call your doctor and get a prescribed pill that would let you die without pain then you would not have to go through all of that pain and worrying when it was your time to go and you could control your own fate.
To get this pill you have to go through a lot of steps and that is why it is safe from getting it into the wrong hands. You first have to be terminally ill and have a short time to live. You also must have two doctors to look at you and decide if you do not have any mental conditions that could misperceive your judgment. Then you have to make a written request to have this pill. Finally there is a fifteen-day waiting period, because it has to go through all of the paper work. There are all of these steps and you can change your mind any time you want to. Once you get the pill you do not have to take it, you can decide that you do not to take it anymore and give the pills back.
Why make people suffer? There is no reason why a person should suffer and have no control over there own life. In Nov. 1997 the state of Oregon approved the Death with Dignity Act, which allowed asst. suicide legal. The first year that it was available 23 Oregonians received the pills; only 15 people used the pill and died peacefully. This past year 33 people asked for it and only 26 actually used it. I think that the reason why the rate is going up because more and more (elder) people are moving to Oregon for this reason. People might say that it to hard on the family but most of the family members under-stand; a husband of a person that took pill was quoted She was my only girl; I didn t want to loose her but she wanted to do this. The state of Maine is right now trying to legalize the pill and I believe that they will do so. People in every state have a right to decide when they want to die.
It is your own life, it safe from other people and it is already legalized in one state and soon to be another are my three reasons why euthanasia should be legalized in every state. People will soon be ready for it every state and I think that it will be legalized in every state in the years to come. Not letting someone ending there own life is like leaving a hurt animal on the side of the road to die slowly, instead of putting it out of its misery.
