Did Dr. Martin Luther King's Speech change anything after he died?
Martin Luther King Jr., a great freedom fighter died on April 4, 1968 in pursuit of bettering the lives of his people on total freedom. Since his death things have changed in many ways. Although this is true, we still have to face the struggle we as a black race can still get our education. In the meantime we as black people are fighting until we get what we want. After we get what we want we still have to go through the white man. Yes, I said the white man. We always have to go through him first. When I heard Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream Speech", it made me think should it be this way. No, it shouldn't. Why? I don't know. I don't want to be in this type of society all my life. I've grown up to see how hard it is for blacks. Is there something we can do to come together as a people to overcome the white man s ignorance. We shouldn t have to live in a society were we are still being judged by skin color, many have died to overcome this bondage of racism. We now have black lawyers, doctors, and teachers.
Yes, we are able to drink from the same water fountain, we are able to ride in the same taxi, and we are able to sit at the same table. But, are we able to voice our opinions and it matters. No, because of the word Stereotype. This is a word that has been around for a long time. This basically means to incorrectly labeling someone by other people s actions. How can you say a person isn't good if you really don t know then. This is what means when I say we have to answer to the white man. If we don t look a certain way or talk a certain way we are not good enough for the white man. Have you noticed when blacks get around whites the tone of their voice changes? Why? Because we feel that it is our duty to please the white man.
When is this non-sense going to STOP? It's now the year of 2000, a new century and the same thing are going on. I don't think it's ever going to stop. But, there's one thing I do know. I'm going to educate myself, make the best out of myself, do the best that I can and not have to face the immorality of the white man.
