Sometimes I think about all the things that have happened to me in my life and I wonder... what would the kids at school think if they knew that (Name)- straight A+ student, (Name) the Brain whohastopgradesandherparentsneverbughersowhatmorecouldshewant- spent most of her childhood crying and feeling inferior because no one ever wanted to play with her or go to the mall or do normal kid things or be her friend and that the reason those grades were so important was that they were all she had? What would people say if they knew that my mom got divorced because she was a manic depressive and had to be hospitalized leaving little me and my baby sister in the care of Nana, who never liked Mommy and said mean things and made me cry into my pillow at night?

The paragraph in this essay does a great job of humanizing the writer by revealing some of the emotions and insecurities that are in the shadow of her whiz kid exterior.
