Bad Policeman

I have discovered that few, if any, people treat others fairly on a consistent basis. This includes city employees in Helena Montana. I have experienced discrimination on the grounds that I ride a skateboard instead of bicycling or inlining.

I experienced bigotry of this sort one summer day while on the downtown walking mall where I was skating with some friends, where it is illegal to skate, bike, inline, or walk pets unleashed but the laws are so rarely enforced that it would be ridiculous to heed them unless the proper authority was present (much the way people jaywalk and tear the tags off of their mattresses). It seems my companions had seen a police officer just in time to hop off of their skateboards, but not in enough time to warn me to do likewise. The next words I heard were coming form the policeman (who was riding a bicycle on the walking mall!) and were something to the effect of, "Luke, come here for a second." I hate the feeling I get when I've been caught doing something red-handed that I know is wrong, and that is the feeling I had right then. I was already feeling bad enough knowing that I was about to receive a ticket for criminal mischief when a small band of roller bladers rode by undisturbed. Two wrongs do not make a right, but both wrongs should be delt equal punishments. I was handed my seventy five dollar ticket and sent on my way, another victim of American prejudice.

This is not a complaint, just a notification to the people of the United States that while there is no slavery, women can vote, and gays can be in the military people still are being discriminated against based on something irrational and unlogical.
