Dear, Jay

I am writing you to say I had a wonderful time on Saturday night. You may not remember me at all, but my name is Bernice Farmer and I was an acquaintance of yours during your time at Oxford. I was delighted that you thought of me and invited me to your party. Nothing has changed since the first day I met you on campus. I can just picture it now; you were wearing a simply dazzling yellow sweater with gray pants and a smile that would swoop any lady right off her feet. I can remember the wild but classy parties that you would have at the dorms. Many men envied you and your elegant looks. When you dropped out nobody could figure out why, my then boyfriend that I was courting said "That Gatsby deserves to drop out after all he doesn't deserve to be here in the first place." For years afterwards I often thought about what he said. I never really figured out what he meant. Maybe it was because you had too much fun, maybe it was because you slacked off quite a bit but I could never quite put my finger on it. If only I had asked him what he meant by that.

I am sorry that I never got a chance to talk to you on Saturday you seemed so busy talking to that one woman named Daisy. Her and I used to be great friends until she married that no good fellow named Tom Buchanan. Every since she married him he has wanted her all to himself, and because of this she has lost many great friends. I was so glad to see you talking to her because I know she wants to get out of that marriage. On her wedding day she told me that she wanted to back out of the marriage because of Tom she said she never really did love him and that he always hit her. Every since then I have not gone a day without thinking how much Daisy wanted to get out of that marriage. So on her behalf I am thanking you for showing her such a good time.

On a happier note I must say that I was swooped off my feet when one of your servants named Douglas gave me a smile that resembled yours just not quite as unique. We started talking and I may be seeing more of him in the weeks to come (that is if it is all right with you).

When I first drove to your glorious house I thought I was at the wrong place considering the way you were when you left Oxford. For this I congratulate you on a job well done whatever it has been, and wishing you continued success on your future endeavors.

I met your good friend Nick on Saturday and he had nothing but good things to say about you. He kept raving about what a gentleman you are to the ladies and a man of high class to the men. He told me that you had been rather busy over the last couple of weeks and that you really needed Saturday to take your mind off things and just have a couple of dances with the women to the tune of that fantastic band you hired.

After you left Oxford I continued to defend you as people started criticizing your work ethics. I always knew that you would do extremely well in the work industry because you were always coming up with ideas, which were simply ingenious. The way you always strive to be at the top of the class or the best at polo it was always there and people could see it and were jealous of it.

To put it simply I think that you have done an excellent job on becoming the man that you are and dealing with people's harsh criticism on yourself and the way that you run your life. In closing I want to say thanks for giving me some direction in my own life as well as giving direction to the lives of others.
