Intro:The Battle of Gettysburg was extremely influential to the out come of the AmericanCivil War. It is considered the turning point of the Civil War. In this presentationwe will explain why and tell you about the battle our presentation deals with. TROOPS:The troops of the battle of Gettysburg, as well as the entire civil war, were made upof common men. It wasn t a battle of gentlemen. The north had a much largerpopulation than the south, but the northern men had less experience with using firearms. So the north found the need to train men and equip them and form a largeenough of a fighting force from its inexperienced volunteers and they had to findefficient military leadership. What the South lacked in numbers, it made up for inmilitary skill and experience. The south also had a strong military and a talentedgroup of military minds. THE BATTLE:

The battle lasted 3 days for a few reasons. First, there was no fighting at nightbecause it was night and no one could see the other troops. Second, the troops hadto march great distances to get to points of battle, and third battle was fierce andtook a lot out of the men so the needed time to rest and recuperate. TURNING POINT:The battle is known as the Turning point of the Civil War because it was the firstpush north the south could stage for the rest of the War. Following Gettysburg thesouths strength and morale dropped drastically and eventually led to more lossesand their defeat in the civil war.Following the battle of Gettysburg, President Lincoln visited Gettysburg onNov.19,1863 to dedicate the Gettysburg National Cemetery to the Soldiers that losttheir live at the battle. This was the date when Lincoln gave his speech, TheGettysburg Address, which we read here in class. It is one of the most famousspeeches of all time.
