Fahrenheit 451

Book vs Video

This paper is intended to cover the differences that I noticed in the movie from the book. There were a vast amount of differences as well as similarities. I will cover very few similarities. I believe the book was a lot better then the movie. Primarily because of how cheesy it was. Granted it was an older film, it still did not due much justice to the book.

Ray Bradbury wrote Fahrenheit 451 in 1953, toward the end of McCarthyism and at the beginning of the escalation of the Cold War. The primary theme of the book is censorship. While censorship is one of the main theme of the book, there are other themes in the book which are equally important today, notably the role of entertainment in life, political correctness, and necessities for happiness.

One of the first things I noticed was the wife s name. In the movie her name was Linda, whereas in the book it Mildred. The character the had chosen to play the role of his little neighbor girl was far to old looking for that part. I believe her name was wrong in the movie as well.
