It is my opinion that Biometrics is an idea that should not become a reality due to the lack of privacy and control over our own lives that it would create.
If the government were to carry out with the plan of Biometrics then the world would become more of a paranoid place then it already is. The general public would be able to be tracked at any moment and all the information about each individual would be accessible at the touch of a button. Our entire medical records, financial records, police records and family history would be available for any government official to know, let alone employers, doctors and possible hackers. The old saying "Don't place all your eggs in one basket", can be applied to this situation. At the present moment, all the information about each individual is evenly spread around different organisations so that a single break-in in one of these organisations won't amount to the hacker knowing everything about one given person. With all this negative talk about Biometrics, I have missed some of the more positive sides to it as well. Kidnapping cases would disappear and it would be a lot harder for criminals to evaporate into thin air after committing crimes. Bank robberies, home break-ins and car thefts would become obsolete, and customs and immigration wouldn't be an hour wait at the airport anymore.
To conclude, it is my opinion that Biometrics, for the most part, would create more of a world wide paranoia than there already is and that the cons out weigh the pros by a long shot. I conclude by saying: "If it (society) ain't broken, don't fix it!!".
