U.S. Department of Transportation
The United States secretary of transportation is Norman Y. Mineta. He became the 14th United States secretary on January 25th, 2001. Mineta has 100,000 employees and $58.7 billion dollar budget.
The United States Transportation system has 3.9 million miles of public roads, 120,000 miles of major railroads, 25,000 miles of waterways, and 5,000 public airports. The U.S. Department of Transportations mission is to ensure a safe, fast, and convenient transportation system. They hope to meet the national interest in transportation.
The U.S. Coast Guard is an organization held by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The U.S. Coast Guard is a military and is the guardian of the sea. The Coast Guard saves lives and keeps people from smuggling drugs into the country. Actually, I think they are doing a pretty good job, considering watching the news and seeing the amount of drugs they have caught on ships.
Another organization with in the U.S. Department of Transportation is the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). This administration is to provide legal services to various offices of the FRA. This organization provides penalties for anyone violating the safety of the rails. This organization is doing great within itself. People of the public cause most train wrecks.
The Federal Aviation Administration is an organization run by the Department of Transportation. The mission of this organization is based on safety, security, and system efficiency. Their goal is to reduce the aviation accident rates by 80% by 2007. They would also like to prevent security incidents. They need the ability to detect all explosive devices and weapons. They would also like to meet the needs of people who ride the airways.
