Altered words to LifeHollywood movies are often based on a novel or a short story. Usually, more often then not, Hollywood's directors and producers will edit scenes in and out of the script to fit their ideal scenario. These transformations will cause the author's original story to appear much different then the Hollywood movie. An example of this was Jason and the Argonauts produced by Charles H. Schneer, the script was based on "The Golden Fleece" translated by Sally Benson. In Jason and the Argonauts and "The Golden Fleece" there were many similarities and differences, some were major differences and others were not. One of the differences between the movie and the story was in the movie version Pelias was commanded by Zeus to overthrow Aeson the King of Thessaly, while in the printed version Aeson gives up the throne to Pelias. In the printed version Aeson, gives up the throne to his brother, Pelias, where as in the movie version Pelias receives the throne with no relation to Aeson. Also in the movie version the oracle told Pelias that he would successfully overthrow Aeson under Zeus's command while the printed version did not have an account of the oracle giving him this information. Another difference between "The Golden Fleece" and Jason and the Argonauts was the presence of Hera in the two plots. In the printed version Hera was an insignificant character, while in the movie version she played an important role. In the movie version Hera was allowed to help Jason five times. The first time Hera helped Jason was when she spooked Pelias's horse, so he could fulfill the prophecy. The second time she helped Jason was when she told him Acoustuf was on the Argo, the third time was when she tells Jason to go to the Bronze Island. The last time Hera gives advice to Jason is when she tells Jason to go to Fineus. In the printed version Hera was not allowed to help Jason.

Jason and his Argonauts were running low on supplies and needed to find a destination to stop. Hera finally tells Jason to go to the Bronze Island to get supplies. On the Bronze Island Hercules took a golden rod, which caused the bronze statue, Talas to come alive. Talas then chased the Argonauts off the island, opposed to as in the printed version when Jason and the Argonauts stop at the Island of Lemnos, to get supplies. Jason and the Argonauts and "The Golden Fleece" are examples of Hollywood directors and producers transforming authors original stories into major movies. These two works of literature have many differences and similarities, which prove movie magic changes author's original stories. by Dance36@aol.com
