Drugs in Society
Drugs and Alcohol in the Life of Celebrities
So you think most celebrities have such “perfect” lives? You are wrong. Many celebrities appear to have “perfect” lives with all the money, popularity and friends they have. But for many celebrities money, popularity, and friends just isn’t enough. Many celebrities don’t find happiness in their “perfect” lives and turn to drugs or alcohol as answers.
Janis Joplin was a popular rock singer in the 1960’s. She had everything anyone could want but she didn’t think she had enough. Joplin had a terrible youth She hated the way she looked, and was troubled by lesbian rumors. So she turned to drugs and alcohol as an answer to her problems. She was in and out of drug rehab all through her singing career. She had finally reached five months of sobriety. Soon after this a friend found Joplin dead in a hotel room. Joplin had died from a heroin overdose.
Jack Kerouac was an American writer. He was the leading chronicler of the “Beat Generation,”a term he used for the social and literary movement in the 1950’s. He was very popular and well known for his writings. Although Kerouac was a good writer he had a heavy drinking problem. Kerouac was not happy with his life even though he had celebrity status. He couldn’t stay away from alcohol for very long. His health was affected greatly by his problem with alcohol. Keoruac’s health got so bad he eventually died at the age of 47.
Jim Morrison was a singer in the 1960’s. He wrote and produced many songs. He had a wonderful career but his inside wasn’t to great. He was a drug addict. He liked drugs and did everything from hashish, to his favorite, which was cocaine. Morrison also enjoyed drinking alcohol. One night Morrison got drunk and later went home. His wife has some heroin and Morrison used some thinking it was his favorite cocaine. You should know that any kind of drugs and alcohol shouldn’t be mixed together. Morrison got very sick and died later on that night from a heroin and alcohol overdose.
Janis Joplin, Jack Kerouac, and Jim Morrison all had “perfect” lives at one point in history. All three of them turned to drugs and alcohol as answers to their problems. Neither drugs nor alcohol helped them solve their problems, it only made them worse. In the end they all suffered and lost.
