Abortion Do We Need It?Abortion is a hot topic these days. We hear about it on television and on the radio. Should we, even take a stance on this issue when we have no idea what is involved in each person's case?Abortion is a very sensitive issue because there are many reasons for having an abortion. And a lot of the time it is not just because a lady does not want to have her baby. It could be due to the lady having been raped, sometimes a lady can t support a baby and sometimes it is because the condoms or birth control did not fully protect them, either way I do not think it should not be legislated by government. Some people think that the lady should have the baby and then put it up for adoption but then there are also a lot of other people that think that the child will suffer psychologically because in a lot of cases the child never gets to meet their biological parents.Here are the responses of the major presidential candidates to the question: "How, if at all, should federal law be changed regarding access to and availability of abortion?'' DEMOCRAT Bill Clinton: "The decision to have an abortion should be between a woman, her doctor, and her faith. Abortions should be safe, legal, and rare. We can lower the number of abortions by emphasizing education, prevention and personal responsibility to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies.'' REPUBLICANS: Lamar Alexander: "States have the right -- and should -- restrict abortion. The federal government should not be involved at all -- should not condone, encourage, fund or prohibit abortion.''Pat Buchanan: "I am for passage of a human life amendment. But even before that takes place the federal government should take the following measures: totally de-funding abortion and abortion-related activities, holding hearings to demonstrate that human life begins at conception, holding hearings to show that women, too, are victims of abortion, and an act of Congress to extend the constitutional rights of a `person' to the unborn child.''

















 







Bob Dole: "Since 1974, I have opposed the Supreme Court's Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion on demand. In 1983, I voted for a constitutional amendment overturning this decision. I support a constitutional amendment to restrict abortion subject to the exceptions of life of the mother, rape and incest.'' Steve Forbes: No response. Dick Lugar: "I oppose abortion, except in the cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is at risk. I support a constitutional amendment to prohibit abortion, except in the cases cited above.''As you can see the Republicans tend to think that a lady should have an abortion only if they were raped or if the life of the mother is at risk. The Democrats however think that the decision should be up to the person not the government. A lot of Democrats want it to happen this year. As much as the Republicans are playing down the abortion issue, the Democrats are playing it up, they know there are more potential pro-choice voters than pro-life voters. But the campaign has to activate the pro-choice vote. Republicans don't want the election to be about abortion, and the polls show why. In May of this year, according to a Times Mirror survey, the American public opposed "changing the laws to make it more difficult for a woman to get an abortion" by two to one. My conclusion is that if a woman has an abortion it should only be because of failure of condoms or birth control or rape and not because they don t want the baby. I also think that the lady should be responsible and use condoms If they choose not to use a condom it is their problem and they should not kill the baby because they were irresponsible.
