Webster defines the term abortion as the induced termination of pregnancy and expulsion of an embryo or fetus. Many have pondered upon this meaning of abortion. The argument against abortion is backed by the strong belief that every child born should be wanted, and others who believe that every child conceived should be born. This has become a very controversial topic for many. Everyone in the United States is covered under the United States Constitution, and under the 14th Amendment, women have been given the choice of abortion. Roe vs. Wade legalized abortion in the early 1970 s. Although these people fought for the right to so-called choose, the case is not closed.
Pro-life activists are still very actively fighting this decision in a struggle for life. They base their case upon the fact that abortion is immoral and life truly begins at conception. As a country we are also very liable for the responsibility of nearly 4,400 killings of the unborn daily. At this point I would like to implement a portion of the Declaration of Independence for which our country was founded upon. These beliefs stated in the preamble and the truth that life begins at conception is a strong basis for which to stand and win this battle and see this law of legalized abortion abolished. Following is the Preamble of the Declaration of Independence written and honored by the forefathers of our great country. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights,

that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted
Allowing abortion to be legal is immoral. A pre-born child is given the status of a product of pregnancy and never seen as the miracle only God can create. Compassion for the small one is drowned out under a demand for rights, but what about the rights for the unborn. A woman has a right to her own body is an idea more and more women are realizing, but that idea ignores the unborn child s right to his or her own body. Never, in modern times, has the state granted to one citizen the right to have another killed in order to solve their personal, social, or economic problems. The embryo is its own being and should have it s own rights to protect it. The zygote is a unique genetic being. If one were to abort an embryo that human life would never be duplicated again. For example, a scientist that may have found the cure to A.I.D.S or someone with a great invention, idea would be killed. There is a better way to solve our problems than by killing children. A fertilized egg is the most beautiful, most innocent being that we could ever create and can redeem even our worst mistakes. This fertilized egg is not just a mass of tissue, for if it were there would be no debate. It is immoral to kill; therefore, abortion is immoral and wrong, not only in the eyes of those who oppose abortion but in the eyes of God.
Abortion should be banned because life begins at conception. The individual sex cell consists of 23 chromosomes. It is only through combination; however, that the sex cells contain the full compliment of heredity units that defines a human being. This procedure of combination defines conception. After the merger of the two sex cells, 46 chromosomes are present. This is

what makes a human being. The merger is complete within twelve hours, at which time the egg is fertilized and becomes known technically as the zygote . The inherited characteristics of a unique human being have been established, and in no circumstances will it change. Nothing from this time on, until death will anything else ever be added. The definition of alive is that a being is growing, developing, maturing, and replacing its own dying cells. It means not being dead. At the very time conception begins the zygote is growing, developing, maturing, and replacing its own dying cells, it is alive. The single-celled fertilized cannot by any stretch of the imagination be considered part of a woman s body. This new living being has a genetic setup unlike anyone else s, totally different from the cells of the mother s body.
It makes no difference to assume that human life is more human post-born than pre-born. What is critical to figure out is if it is or is not human life, and of coarse it is human life. It is a fact of biological science make no mistake that from the moment of conception, a new human life has been created. At 18 days, the heart is pumping through a closed circulatory system, with a blood type that can be different from that of the mother. At 40 days, the brain begins to function. In the 16th week, motion has been detected. During the eighth week, the baby s stomach secretes gastric juice, and all of its body system is present. The baby dreams, thinks, and feels pain. This is definitely a child, and no one on the face of this earth would be here if they were not conceived. In summary, a woman s right to choose can justify abortion, but it should be banned because it is immoral and life begins at conception. Women have been given the right to have an abortion under the United States Constitution, but the people that fight for

the unborn child s rights are still protesting this fight. Pro-life activists claim that it is immoral because it is simply defined as murder. Life begins at conception and abortion is simply taking that life and doing away with it before it has a chance to become what God intended. They will never have the chance to experience laughter, playing, growing up, learning or even living.
I found a poem that summarizes my strong belief against abortion. It s words are very true and fitting for our society today. The strong and forceful words penned in this poem should grip the hearts and consciences of those responsible for legalizing such a heinous crime as abortion. It states: There once was a day when our morals were strong. When life was a gift, and when murder was wrong. Now I wonder, how could we get so confused, and how could our freedoms get misused? They ll try and convince us of well thought out ploys. That killing a child is a woman s own choice. They ll say, It is tissue, It just causes strife, But God says, That s my child. I have plans for his life.
