Term paper on Women And Having Children
Abortion term papers
Women have very tough decisions they have to make when it comes to having or not having a child. The toughest of all has to be, do I really want this child and if I do am I going to be able to take care of it? When it comes right down to it should a person be able to end another person’s life? I am going to expose some of the pros and the cons that have to do with abortion. First though I will tell you what abortion is. Abortion is a way to end pregnancy. Sometimes, an embryo or fetus stops developing and the body expels it. This is called spontaneous abortion or "miscarriage." Also a woman can also choose to end a pregnancy. This is called induced abortion. There are two ways it can be done either surgically or medically.
Let’s start with the pro’s to having an abortion. There are many reasons why an abortion may seem necessary. The couple may be to young or immature to have a child, having a baby is to expensive, the couple may have all the children they want, the partner may not want a child, the fetus has health problems, or the female was a victim of rape or incest. I am sure every couple has one of these reasons or another. All of these problems could be solved if an abortion is decided upon. Another positive aspect is that “young women who have abortions are were far more likely to graduate from high school at the expected age than those of similar socioeconomic status who carried their pregnancies to term. ” (Armsworth, 69) This obviously makes sense since it takes nine months to have a child and if you are in high school you are going to miss some school during this time for doctor appointments, getting the room ready, shopping and everything else that goes along with having a child. Not only will the female that has the abortion be able to go to school but she also will be able to have a better chance at being successful. Many women that have abortions do not suffer adverse psychological effects according to Nancy Alder. (41) In fact they have “higher self-esteem, greater feelings of worth and capableness, than do woman who have no abortions or who have repeated abortions.” (Alder, 42) Because the female has better chance to succeed or feel better about herself does that give her the right to have an abortion? Studies have been done that show “women who have unwanted births sustained lower quality relationships with their children.” (Barber, 3) Mothers with unwanted births are more depressed and unhappy than mothers with out unwanted births. (Zabin, 21) There are many reasons to have an abortion but I think there are more reasons not to.
Now lets discuss the cons to having an abortion. An abortion in other words means ending your child's life. Many people do not know that there is a very good chance it could end the mothers’ life also. If you have an abortion you are increasing the chances that not only the fetus in you but you to will die. “Abortions causes deep depression and guilt that can eventually lead to suicide.” (Armsworth, 379) Not only does abortion risk the chances of suicide but it also increases health problems. Many women die from tubal pathology. “She has ectopic pregnancy years later and dies“ (Alder, 41) Abortions may be legal but that doesn’t mean they are necessarily safe. There aren’t as many reasons not to have an abortion, as there is to have an abortion. All I can say is that I think personally that it is wrong to have an abortion because you are killing a human being.
I am against abortion. Why should a child that never asked to come into this world in the first place personally Everyone knows that there are ways to prevent pregnancies have to suffer the consciousness of a mistake the couple made? There is always the choice of putting the child up for adoption if you can’ t handle, afford or do not want the child. I personally couldn’t life with my self-everyday knowing that I had killed an innocent child because I was not responsible enough to prevent it. The only way I could justify this would be by rape or incest. That is only because the mother had no say choice in the matter of becoming pregnant. The next time you have unprotected sex think of the consciousness. The last thing I ask you to think of is how lucky you are that your mother chose to have you instead of aborting you.
