Anti-Abortion

Abortion is an ethical issue that confronts us as individuals and as a society. It is being debated in American society today and the question is should this practice be permitted? In many cultures and religions, having an abortion is completely forbidden without a doubt. On the other hand many people think having an abortion is exceptional for certain special cases such as the mothers life being in danger, the victim of a rape, or in cases of incest.

What is an abortion? Obviously the people who think any abortion is acceptable does not know what they are actually doing. An abortion is the voluntary termination of an unborn child. From the very start, a fetus is a human being with full human rights, including the right not to be killed or in other words the right to live. This fetus is a being trying to survive inside their mothers body. It is striving for a chance to live and have somewhat of a future. Killing this unborn baby will take away the chance of making a future that is set in her destiny to live. Many people believe in God and therefore believe he does what is best for people. "Thou shall not kill," is one of the commandments in the Bible, which should have deep meaning to many people of the Christian faith.

There are so many teenagers who are single and end up getting pregnant due to carelessness. They should take on the responsibility of having that child if it was their own fault. They took the liberty to have sex without thinking of the consequences. Just because of some careless mistake, a child has to not only suffer, but put to death when it wasn't even their fault but their parents fault. For example many teenagers are on the pill and if they forget to take their pill, they can get pregnant and then decide to "get rid of it."

Another case is married women who become pregnant and then realize they cannot afford it money wise and they don't have time to care for their child. The easiest way to get rid of the problem is to literally get rid of it. In other words to cease the baby. In this case the family usually makes the decision whether or not to kill the baby. The main question here is, does not having time and money to care for a kid that you conceived, justify taking a life?

There are many cases that are exceptional in our society such as victims of rape. If a girl is rapes and becomes pregnant, not only does she have to deal with a tremendous and emotional life, but also the child has to live a very stressful life. The child would be born not knowing his father and knowing the only reason he or she was brought into this world was not because people wanted him but that it was forced non-mutually. The mother would have to live everyday of her life in sadness because every time she would look at her child she would remember her past.

Incest also goes along with rape where you end up being pregnant with your father or your brother's baby. In this case, you have to look at the future of that child and the future of your family. You wouldn't have the heart to kill a child but if it were the grandchild of the father and the child of the father, it would bring up many problems with the family. It will also cause problems for the child when he or she is growing up.

Medically, there have been many cases whereby the life of the mother is threatened. The question here is should the mother live or should the child live. If you try to save the child by killing the mother, there is a chance where the child may also die. If you save the mother, in the future she will always be able to have more kids.

Lastly, a case where there is a disability of the child where the child is medically diagnosed by genetics with a very severe disease. If you look at the child, it may have the worst life ever. It will have to deal with being sick and leading a life with a lot of suffering. The mother will be under sop much stress because she would have to take extra time and money to care for that child.

There are many cultures who say it is forbidden to have an abortion no matter what condition it is and then there are some like the Islamic religion where they have exceptions to the law. The majority of pregnancies that result in abortion are those of teenagers and their carelessness. Fortunately there are very few abortions that are because of rape, incest, or medical reasons. If these teenagers would be smarter and take into consideration the consequences of their actions, we wouldn't have such a huge problem with abortion. This problem does not justify taking a life of an unborn child.
